SCRANTON -- Police responded Thursday morning for reports of a drive-by shooting in Scranton.

It happened around 10:45 a.m. near the 2000 block of North Main Avenue, about two blocks away from Providence Square in north Scranton.

Officers have been searching the street and putting out evidence markers.

Police haven't made an official statement but we spoke with a man who was turning on to North Main at the time of the shooting he told us he saw a man talking with another man who was in a white car. He said the shots then came from the car and one hit the other man in the leg.

One of Scranton's busiest streets was shut down and turned into a crime scene for a reason neighbors on North Main Avenue just couldn't believe.

"Watching TV and all of a sudden I heard, 'pop ,pop, pop, pop,' five gun shots going off," recalled neighbor Herbert Leggieri.

Investigators marked those shots on the side of the street. One hit a man in the leg.

Joseph Sheridan was outside with his family and had just told the victim to have a nice day.

"We stopped him, we told him, 'nice weather.' He agreed with us and two minutes later after that we hear, 'bang, bang, bang, bang.' We thought it was a firework, a firecracker," said Sheridan.

Sheridan and a few others ran over to the victim who told them he knew his shooter.

Sheridan's home security system caught a glimpse of the car the shooter was in -- a white sedan.

Sheridan says the shooter covered his face.

The victim was taken to the hospital and a few people who knew him were taken to talk with detectives.

Police left after a few hours, but this is a day that people who live on North Main Avenue won't soon forget.

"You don't hear that around this neighborhood, this is a good neighborhood around here, it's just really weird," said Leggieri.

"I have kids and she walks this and runs up and down the street. It's just, it's unbelievable. We've lived here over 15 years and never had that happen down here on this block," Sheridan added.
