SCRANTON -- It was a one of a kind store on Wyoming Avenue in Scranton that brought shoppers from near and far for decades, especially around the holidays.

From the Christmas carolers to the iconic window displays, the Globe Store brings back plenty of memories. It was even featured on WVIA's special "Back in the Day."

Now there's a chance for you to relive the good old days.

Scranton Tomorrow, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Lackawanna Historical Society are now collecting Globe Store related items to make a window display in the store's windows.

At least one of the window themes will be Santa's World. The junior league plans to do the popular display like they did decades ago.

The other windows will be like walking down memory lane with different items from the former department store.

"Really the goal is just to connect people back to the Globe Store and just give them that good fun memory at the holidays. Also to get people downtown to see all the great things that are going on in downtown Scranton," Joshua Mast of Scranton Tomorrow said.

On the first day of collecting items, people brought in Globe Store boxes and even a vintage dress.

The Barrett family of Justus helped remember some of their best years in Scranton.

"You always brought the kids to the Globe Store to see Santa Claus because they had the best Santa in town," Marion Barrett said.

Even though the Globe has been closed for over 20 years, people say they can't wait until the windows are filled again. Many say it will bring back a lot of memories.

"Then they can see what it was like back then for the people and the kids who grew up here and went in there and was all excited over stuff like that, you know," Paul Ross said.

Morley Barrett thinks it's great that the window displays are coming back.

"I was glad to hear that because this was a great store. It could be a great store again but with the mall that put them out of business," Morley Barrett said.

Nick Luongo of Scranton wants to share his memories of the Globe with everyone.

He stopped in the men's section of the store to drop off a picture of Cleland Simpson, the former owner of the store.

He also had a shirt he bought on clearance for $3.99.

"I was a shopper at the Globe Store for a long time. It was one of my favorite stores. Just shopping for years and years there, it was a great store, brings back a lot of memories," Luongo said.

Paul Blackledge, one of the organizers, tells us he remembers the good old days at the popular department store. He worked there in 1987.

"I started in electronics and then moved to the fashion floor and I just have great memories of the hustle and the bustle of not only the store but of downtown and it just brings back a lot of great memories for me," Paul Blackledge said.

Items for the window display will be collected again on Thursday, November 12 from 12 p.m. - 2 p.m. and also from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m.
