SCRANTON, Pa. — Hundreds of people are expected at Nay Aug Park this Sunday for the 2024 Lackawanna County Recovery Walk and Celebration. It's all part of National Recovery Month in the United States, which is September.
"The idea is to of course celebrate recovery, talk about the power of recovery, work towards the stigma reduction," Frank Bolock, one of the recovery walk coordinators, said.
The event started five years ago in Lackawanna County.
"Each year we've had more and more people so this year we expect probably 600 people," Bolock said.
The event runs this Sunday from 11am-4pm at Nay Aug Park in Scranton. There will be free t-shirts, food, live music and activities for children.
"It's a family event. It's a fun event. There's music, food, it's all free. The public's invited and it should be a great day," Bolock said.
The one-mile walk shines a spotlight on addiction and people in recovery.
"We hear a lot about the power of addiction and the tragedy that comes with that. Equally as real is the power that comes with recovery and the lifechanging things that happen with people in recovery," Bolock said.
The Lackawanna County Recovery Walk and Celebration is this Sunday from 11-4 at Nay Aug Park in Scranton. The event is free and open to the public.
