Readying the route | Green marks the line of march for the Scranton St. Patrick's parade

DPW workers painted the city green on Monday ahead of the parade set for Saturday

SCRANTON, Pa. — The streets in Scranton are painted green, a sure sign of the city's big celebration of St. Patrick.

"Irish" Gene Reed from Scranton's DPW laid down the green line on Monday to mark the route for Saturday's St. Patrick's Parade.

The day begins with mass at St. Peter's Cathedral on Wyoming Avenue at 10 a.m., followed by the Brian P. Kelly Memorial race through the downtown at 11 a.m.

The parade, one of the largest in the county, dates back to 1962 and steps off at 11:45 a.m. Saturday.
