OLYPHANT -- For a lot of people, these days mowing the yard has become a task they find themselves doing more often than usual.
It's not a bad thing if you ask workers in the landscaping business.
"This has been probably one of the busiest years we've had in a very long time. With all of this rain, we've been cutting grass non-stop 24/7, week after week this year," an employee with Vitucci Landscaping said.
Since the start of June, many parts of our area have had more than 10 inches of rain.
That's more than double the amount we had this time last summer.
While that's great for landscaping businesses, workers say cutting wet grass makes the job more challenging.
"It's a lot harder. We can't like mulch the grasses that much. We basically have to bag a lot because everything chucks up and it gets really bad."
At Jermyn Supply in Lackawanna County, a lot of people are stopping by to pick up some mulch for their gardens.
One man said he just hasn't been able to get out there yet because of all the rain.
"Made me wait quite a while. I wasn't able to do much during the month of June and finally everything is starting to dry out now," Mike Keyasko of Peckville said.
Tony Grande who works at Jermyn Supply says business here has been good.
When it comes to taking care of his yard at home, he says a break from the rain would be nice.
"I can't keep after my grass. Every time I try to get going it rains. Another day, you're working all day. You start cutting, it rains while you're cutting. I just can't keep after it," Grande said.
It's a task many people are having trouble keeping up with.
Before you know it, you'll be plowing snow instead of mowing grass.
