MOOSIC -- More than 7,000 people took in a baseball game on Monday as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders wrapped up the most successful regular season since becoming a Yankees' affiliate in 2007.
Next up are the International League playoffs.
Fans poured into PNC Field in Moosic, ready to celebrate the Scranton /Wilkes-Barre RailRiders as they took on the Syracuse Chiefs.
Jack Finnerty is a season ticket holder and calls the team's winning season a pleasant surprise.
"After the first four or five, I thought this was going to be a good season."
As fans walked in for this last game of the regular season, they received promotional gifts and greetings from staff. Favorite snacks such as Cracker Jack and popcorn were available.
George Thomas and his family stopped for some souvenirs before the game. He said it's great to watch quality ball without the hassle of a big city.
"I'm a lifelong Yankee fan and this is so much closer to me than New York City is, and we love coming out here. It's so family friendly over here and the kids have a great time."
General manager Jeremy Ruby says he attributes the spike in attendance to nice weather, great fans, and winning along the base paths.
"It's been awesome," said Ruby. "We got an amazing team on the field -- we're at 90 wins right now trying to tie a franchise record. It's just been awesome on the field and off the field."
The RailRiders did tie that record with a 4-3 win over the Chiefs. They start playoff action on Wednesday against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs.
