Property owners in Lackawanna County find damage after putting land up for sale

The owners say state police are working to find who caused the property damage.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — "It looks like he backed in, pulled it out again and backed over, tried to hit those vents," said Jack Davis.

Ruts can be seen on top of the Davis family's new septic system and across their property in Ransom Township.

This happened after they said someone was illegally trespassing sometime last week.

"Used a double, dual wheel truck and backed over the septic and tore up the road," said Cindy Davis.

She and her husband, Jack Davis, recently listed the piece of land for sale on multiple sites, including Facebook Marketplace.

Cindy said through the online service, the owner of a landscaping company reached out and wanted to see the property it wasn't long after that when she say something felt off.

"Next thing I know, he's texting me and saying, I'm on your property with my equipment. I have a landscaping company, and I have cash, and I said, sir, that's not how we do business. And he said, that's how I do business," said Cindy. "He said, well, I'll park my equipment on your property. Is that ok? I went, I said, no, that's not ok."

After telling the unknown buyer to leave the property, the Davises returned a few days later and found all the damage.

"If it's a septic, which I'm hoping not, it could be $30,000 plus," said Jack. "If it's just the dirt and the fill, and I hope that the drain field isn't damaged, it could be $4,000."

The Davis are now working with state police to find out who tore up their ground.

They advise others looking to sell their land to think twice before handing out the address.

"Now we've had a few people look at it, and I want to see their license and their address and proof that they have money because everybody wants to just walk through the woods but, or do this, but we can't do that anymore," said Jack.
