LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- A power outage at one mall in Lackawanna County caused dozens of shops and stores to shut down.
The parking lot at Sears, in the Viewmont Mall, cleared out a lot earlier on Saturday because of a power outage that happened around 8 p.m.
The power was out for about an hour, causing the mall to be evacuated. It's all because of a wire that caught fire and had to be shut off in order for crews to repair it.
Viewer video shows the wire that caught fire and had to be repaired. PPL technicians say there's no official word on what caused the wire to catch on fire.
What ensued was a mass exodus of people leaving the mall, hours before many shops typically close. The story for many shoppers was the same, sorry mom!
"We were gonna go in the mall, she was shopping for Mother's Day and everything. Can't do that now, so," said Christopher Robaczewski of Kingston.
The shops inside will remain closed for the night. The mall's general managers says the restaurants have the option to open back up since they typically stay open later than the rest of the mall.
