SCRANTON, Pa. — Scranton Police announced late Thursday evening that 24-year-old Rahjuan Marquel Morgan has been charged in connection to the death of Benjamin Thompson.
Morgan is charged with criminal homicide and criminal conspiracy after he and two unidentified males communicated with Thompson for the purpose of completing a drug transaction, then robbed him and shot him in the chest.
Police say the investigation is still ongoing and that more arrests are expected.
Investigators said Friday that 36-year-old Thompson was shot prior to a crash in Scranton early Wednesday morning.
Morgan is currently in custody at the Lackawanna County Prison.
Officers responded to a crash along the 1800 block of Jackson Street in Scranton just after midnight on Wednesday morning.
Neighbors told a Newswatch 16 crew at the scene that they witnessed the crash and that CPR was performed on the man in the vehicle before he was taken to the hospital.
The Lackawanna County Coroner later confirmed Thompson died at the hospital.
Police initially said the death was suspicious, but after an autopsy, announced earlier Thursday it was a homicide.
