LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — The beginning of Lent also means the start of meatless meals, and a church in Lackawanna County held its pierogi sale on Wednesday.
Saint John's Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Mayfield started selling homemade pierogis at 11 a.m.
The sale serves as one of the biggest fundraisers for the church.
Organizers say a lot of manpower goes into getting everything ready for the sale.
"The more we sell, the more we make, and hopefully, we can cover our bills. There's also the maintenance and salaries that go with it," said Sandra Suey, St. John's Russian Orthodox Church member.
Church members made more than 10,000 pierogies for the sale in Lackawanna County.
