PennDOT prepares for icy conditions

PennDOT officials are advising drivers to be safe while traveling in icy conditions ahead of a wintry mix expected on Tuesday.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — Another storm is headed our way on Tuesday, and that means there could be icy conditions, especially in the morning.

PennDOT workers are already preparing for what Mother Nature might bring by getting ready to treat the roads.

"We may be treating roadways with salt brine today and early tomorrow morning. We also may be pre-spreading roadways with a salt and anti-ski combination to make sure when the frozen precipitation does occur, that motorists are able to maintain their traction control on the roadways," said Jonathan Eboli, PennDOT District 4.

Officials say you should always drive with the conditions in mind and to remember that even if the roads look wet, they could be icy.

Bridges usually freeze before the road, so PennDOT warns drivers to take extra caution.
