SCRANTON, Pa. — A parade to honor those in our area in the armed services will affect traffic in Scranton this weekend.
The Northeast Pennsylvania Armed Forces Day Parade steps off in downtown Scranton at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18.
Before the parade, the Heroes of All Kinds 5K will run through the streets of the city, starting at 9 a.m.
According to Scranton Police, there will be no parking on the parade route starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday. Maps of the parade and race routes are posted on the Scranton Police Facebook page.
The parade starts at the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center on Penn Avenue and Mulberry Street and continues through downtown to Courthouse Square.
This will be the first parade since 2019.
The parade is held on Armed Forces Day, observed yearly on the third Saturday in May. The single-day celebration stems from the unification of the Armed Forces under one department—the Department of Defense—in 1949.
