Oscar | 16 To The Rescue

This week, we meet a 7-month-old puppy who needs a new family.

SCRANTON, Pa. — In this week's 16 To The Rescue, we meet a dog named Oscar.

"He is a sweetheart. He just blossomed. He blossomed; he's fun. He's like my type of guy—big and dumb," said Barb Halloran, Friends with Paws Pet Rescue.

Oscar is 7 months old and has been living at Friends with Paws Pet Rescue in Scranton for about a month. He came in as an owner surrender.

"He's 'hound-y' looking, but he came in as pit bull/mix, but I see very little pit bull. I see a lot of hound here," said Halloran.

Oscar was living in a home with his mom, but the two dogs were not getting along and getting very aggressive with each other, which is one of the reasons his family decided to give him up.

"Because of him and his mom, I would just say if you have an alpha female, no," Halloran said.

But Oscar can go to a home with male dogs, and older kids would be OK, too. Rescue workers say Oscar is just a big baby, and thinks he is about 10 pounds. As soon as you sit down, Oscar will get right on your lap.

"I'd give him like, well for a puppy, 7 months, I'd give him like medium to low energy. When he runs with the other ones, he'll tire out first," said Halloran.

Oscar does not need a huge backyard or overly long walks. He is house-trained and is getting fixed early next week. It took Oscar a few days to get used to his life in rescue, but volunteers think he was just scared of so many changes all at once. They took it slow and let him come to them.

"Bingo, that's all it took, that by the time we were done cleaning the pen, he ran out after us, started jumping on us, kissing us, and there's no turning back. Now it's like, 'Oscar, please,'" said Halloran.

Now, he has no problem meeting new people, so rescue workers don't see that being an issue once he finds his forever home. If you would like to meet Oscar, you can find his adoption information by clicking here.
