Officials urge safety ahead of Thanksgiving

With a busy few days of holiday travel ahead, officials in Lackawanna County are warning drivers not to drive drunk.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — State and local police, the Lackawanna County District Attorney's Office, and PennDOT spread the word about safe driving Wednesday at Geisinger CMC in Scranton.

According to state police, last Thanksgiving, there were 970 crashes across the state. Alcohol played a role in 48 of those.

"You can have a good time and have a plan. Either have a designated driver, decide not to drink, or use the service of a lift company to provide safety for you and others," said District Attorney Mark Powell, Lackawanna County.

Troopers say last Thanksgiving, more than 500 people were arrested in Pennsylvania for driving under the influence.
