SCRANTON, Pa. — A chilly charity event took place on Saturday in Lackawanna County.

Many jumped into a pool of very cold water for the Northeaster Polar Plunge at Montage Mountain near Scranton.

Those who were brave enough to jump raised at least $50 to do so.

A portion of those proceeds benefits Special Olympics Pennsylvania, which provides training and competitions in Olympic-type sports to children and adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities. People involved in the event told Newswatch 16 why it was so important to participate.

"Because I've been a part of it. I have autism and ADHD and I have been a part of this amazing organization, albeit different states, for about 16 years and it has changed my life so I can do events like this," said Daniel Morales of Clarks Summit.

For people in the crowd who were too 'chicken' to jump into the water, a special rendition of the 'Chicken Dance' was played to add more fun to the event.
