LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — Brown's gym in Clarks Summit was busy Saturday morning with people lifting weights and getting in some cardio. The regular gymgoers know it's about to get busier with the holidays behind us.
"It gets packed because of the whole New Year's resolution deal," said Parker Robinson, Tunkhannock.
"A lot of old faces, a lot of new faces. It's nice to see everyone come out and make themselves better for the new year," said Emma Blakiewicz, Clarks Summit.
Staff at the gym say the days before the new year always draw new faces with new goals.
Brandon Sales is a personal trainer at Brown's Gym; he says people have different reasons why they want to get themselves into the gym for the new year, like losing weight or just adding some activity into their lives, but all too often, they fall off track quickly, "A lot of people that want to start working out they will go all out and then burn themselves out within, I'd say a month," he said.
Sales says that avoiding New Year burnout and keeping the resolutions going slow is the way to go, "With the new year it's all about slow and steady pace of you're going to start and you are going to get one percent better every single time youre in the gym."
People who are no strangers to the gym say while the New Year crowds may bother some, they're just happy to see people setting goals for themselves.
"Just because you are new doesn't not mean you should be discouraged, you should always come even if you are scared. Just come every day, and you'll get better," said Robinson.
"Everyone is here to make themselves better, so give some encouragement. Nobody is here to lose. Just encourage them," said Blakiewicz.
Staff at Brown's Gym expect more people to sign up in the first week of January.
