New Scranton park dedicated to former mayor

A park in downtown Scranton has a new name and look.

SCRANTON, Pa. — A park in Lackawanna County was officially dedicated to a former mayor on Friday.

The park on the corner of Linden Street and Wyoming Avenue was officially dedicated as Christopher A. Doherty Park. 

Doherty served as the mayor of Scranton for twelve years, from 2002 to 2014.

The nonprofit Scranton Tomorrow helped develop the new park downtown.

Students from the Scranton School for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing helped give the park a colorful upgrade earlier this week. Planting thousands of flowers at the park.

The project was financed in part by a grant from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Community and Economic Development (PA DCED).
