New Carbondale mayor sworn in

After nearly 20 years, the City of Carbondale officially has a new mayor.

CARBONDALE, Pa. — This weekend's winter storm did not stop officials from getting to work in Carbondale. The pioneer city officially has a new mayor.

Democrat Michele Bannon was sworn in on Sunday afternoon at the Anthracite Hotel ballroom on South Main Street.

Former mayor Justin Taylor, who served for nearly two decades, decided not to seek reelection last year.

Bannon says her plans for the city include working closely with other organizations and growing together.

"Big plans are unification, you know, working with one another because together we're stronger, and that's a lot of my theme. We take in a lot of help and partnership from other organizations, so that's how we're going to build a lot of our future growth," said the Mayor of Carbondale, Michele Bannon.

Several new council members were also sworn in Carbondale this afternoon.
