New art installation in Scranton

The umbrellas hanging over Bogart Court in downtown Scranton are now sporting a new summer look.

SCRANTON, Pa. — An art installation in Lackawanna County has swapped the hanging umbrellas for a summer accessory.

The art installation in downtown Scranton is sporting pool noodles that were first displayed in the colorful street art back in April.

The former displays of umbrellas couldn't withstand the weather for too long with the season. Now, dozens of brightly colored foam pool noodles hang over Bogart Court.

"I knew that the umbrellas had to come down because they don't have a long shelf life, so I thought, why not do a bunch of pool noodles up there to welcome summer, and maybe at some point, I'll put a sprinkler below and let the kids splash through," said Frank Dubas of Scranton.

The goal of the art installation is to help revitalize downtown Scranton and make it more of a walkable city.

Dubas says the original display took off on social media, with people looking to take photos. He has plans to continue the art installation in downtown Scranton.
