Lackawanna County Treatment Court marks 25 years

Lackawanna County Treatment Court marked 25 years with a special celebration Friday on Courthouse Square in Scranton.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — First Friday in Scranton also marked a major milestone for one county organization dedicated to giving people a second chance.

The Lackawanna County Treatment Court is celebrating 25 years.

The program gives drug and alcohol addicts an alternative to jail.

"It's beautiful, not only to see 25 years but now to see basically children of the people that were in the court, and they're here. There's no it's not mandatory that they're here. They come back years afterward, bring their children back, and to see just real success stories that they've changed their life around," said Honorable Judge Michael Barrasse, Lackawanna County.

Judge Barrasse started the program back in 2000.
