SCRANTON, Pa. — Police arrested a male on Wednesday afternoon in the area of Scranton High School who was armed with a weapon.
The Scranton police chief said the suspect had a rifle and got off a bus at the Lackawanna County Transit Center in the city.
Schools within the Scranton Area School District were placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Officers increased their presence in the area.
Some parents learned about what happened when they picked their kids up from school.
"That's scary for me as a mom of a seventh grader. They're really good here at this school here with making sure nothing happens to our kids, so I'm glad they were able to control it as fast as they did and get the guy in custody," one parent said.
Police say there is no information to suggest that there is a danger to the community.
