CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. — A state representative hosted an event to help people replace their peeling license plates in Lackawanna County Saturday afternoon.
Employees at Northeast Title and Tag in Clarks Summit helped those rundown plates fill out the forms needed to replace them.
"It's very important. In some cases, it can lead to a fine if you are stopped by a police officer. It could lead to tickets if a police officer sees that your plate is peeling parked on a public roadway. And so getting your plate replaced is very important if it's peeling," said Joseph Grasso, Northeast Title and Tag President/Ceo.
State Rep. Bridget Kosierowski and state police teamed up for the event.
"We're teaming with the Pennsylvania State Police to help people address an important but sometimes overlooked issue," Kosierowski said. "State law prohibits driving with a license plate that is illegible – meaning that it's blistered, peeling or discolored; has lost reflectivity; or has at least one number or letter that can't be recognized from 50 feet away. Plates with any of these problems qualify for free replacement, and our event will make the whole process easier."
