Last-minute shovel shopping ahead of the weekend's winter storm

At Driscoll's, ice melt is piled high. Shovels of every shape and size are in stock. There is a surplus of items, as it hasn't been needed this season, until now.

OLD FORGE, Pa. — Driscoll's Home Center in Old Forge is winter-ready, with shovels and everything needed for the first storm of the season. They're prepared for those who are waiting to stock up as the snow moves in.

"We have 50/50. Some of them are coming now that are prepared. And we always have our last-minute shoppers," said store manager Tony Zuchinski.

Shoppers like Gwen Powell of Old Forge left with shovel in hand on Thursday.

"No, I don't have any snow shovels. I got rid of them because the last few years, we really didn't have any snow, so I figured it was time to come out and grab another one," said Powell.

Powell says she pushed off buying the winter necessities because of the warm winter weather.

"No! Definitely not prepared for it. Because we haven't had anything this season, I'm ready for it. I'm excited for the snow," added Powell.

At Driscoll's, items like ice melt are piled high. Shovels of every shape and size are in stock. There is a surplus of items, as it hasn't been needed this season, until now.

"We are going to be 100 percent prepared. Our delivery will be here. We're well stocked," said Zuchinski.

Giving a helping hand to those digging out this weekend.

"My partner, she helps me a lot and I have a really big dog who loves the snow, eating snowballs. So, we'll be out there shoveling together," said Powell.

Powell is hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.

"Hopefully, we don't get a lot, but we're going to get it. We're going to get it," said Zuchinski.
