Lane restriction in Scranton for concerns with a railroad bridge

Drivers in Scranton can expect the westbound lane of Theodore Street to be closed until further notice.

SCRANTON, Pa. — Drivers in Scranton can expect a lane closure until further notice.

The City of Scranton will close the westbound lane of Theodore Street between Ralph and Return Avenues on Saturday, Feb. 24.

After a visual inspection of the railroad bridge of Theodore Street, there were some concerns about the possibility of at least one large piece of concrete falling into the westbound lane of Theodore Street, according to a press release.

Please use caution when traveling along this route and follow the 25-mile-per-hour speed limit.

Norfolk Southern sent Newswatch 16 a statement saying:

"We take seriously our commitment to the safety of our operations and our infrastructure, including our bridges in the communities we serve. We are monitoring this bridge and identifying any needed repairs. All of our bridges are maintained according to federal regulations and are subject to regular structural inspection under FRA guidelines."
