Injuries reported in wrong-way crash in Lackawanna County

One man was arrested and accused of driving under the influence

MOSCOW, Pa. — Two people were injured Sunday in an early-morning wrong-way crash on Interstate 380 in Lackawanna County, state police said.

Johan Garcia-Barrera, the man who state police say drove the wrong-way in the 4:39 a.m. crash in Moscow, is thought to have been under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody.

State police said Garcia-Barrera admitted he drank "a few beers" at a party that night and a trooper noticed an open case of beer on the floor of his Chevrolet Malibu.

The names and conditions of the two other drivers injured in the Sunday morning crash were unavailable. They were both taken to Geisinger Community Medical Center for treatment, state police said.

State police said Garcia-Barrera drove north in the south bound lanes and struck another vehicle head-on by mile marker 21. A third car could not stop in time and crashed into the car Garcia-Barrera hit.

Garcia-Barrera nearly fell over during a sobriety test and later refused to consent to a blood draw.

A judge set bail for Garcia-Barrera at $15,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled May 30 on charges including simple assault, recklessly endangering others and driving under the influence.
