Porch collapses in South Scranton

No serious injuries were reported, police say

SCRANTON, Pa. — No one was seriously hurt when a porch collapsed Sunday in Lackawanna County.

The third-floor porch of an apartment building on Prospect Avenue in South Scranton buckled around 1:30 p.m. while tenants carried their belongings to a moving truck, according to officials and residents. Only minor injuries were reported.

Scranton firefighters helped a tenant recover their dog and cat from their apartment that, by that point, could only be accessed through a side window.

A city housing inspector then condemned the building.

City officials were trying to reach the property's owner, which was listed in Lackawanna County assessment records as an LLC based in New York.
