Lackawanna County Heritage Fair returns to Montage Mountain this weekend

Fair season is back, and this weekend, the Lackawanna County Heritage Fair celebrates the rich culture of Lackawanna County.

SCRANTON, Pa. — Fair season is here for the summer, and this weekend's fair in Lackawanna County celebrates the county's vibrant heritage.

The Lackawanna County Heritage Fair is back at Montage Mountain this weekend, running from Thursday to Sunday. The fair will feature so much of what makes Lackawanna County special. There will be food and craft vendors, live music, amusement rides, and so much more.

"Why not Lackawanna County? We deserve to showcase what we have. Just because we're not an agricultural community doesn't mean we shouldn't have a fair, so we came up with the Heritage Fair," said Executive Director Curt Camoni, Lackawanna County Visitors Bureau.

From Lackawanna County's local flavors to its rich culture and storied past, it all comes together this weekend on Montage Mountain.

"I grew up in this area, moved away for a while for work, and it feels great to be back. You miss the heritage and some of the local things that we're celebrating," said Tim Meyers.

Meyers is the Operations Officer at Coal Town Graphics. It's a new business; it just opened this year. The graphics company based out of Dunmore designed the signage and t-shirts for the fair and is just one of the dozens of vendors too.

"We like to work with local businesses all the time, as often as we can. To be able to contribute with some local community organizations and things like this is exactly up our alley, so it's been really fun," Meyers said.

The Lackawanna County Heritage Fair kicks off the summer and fair season here in Northeastern and Central PA. Since it's only been around for a few years, organizers wanted it to stand out from all of the others.

"We wanted to differentiate ourselves and we wanted to make sure we weren't competing with any of the established fairs. They have a crowd, and a lot of them are local. Our folks love fairs, and they do the circuit, so we said, 'Let's be first and let's be different,'" Camoni said.

$15 gets you free parking, unlimited access to all of the amusement rides, live entertainment, and access to Montage Mountain Water Park.

"No other fair that I know of is connected to a water park, so while we don't have a blue ribbon cow award, what we do have is cultural presentations, talking about our history, showcasing the anthracite history but also our artists, craft vendors, and great family values," said Camoni.
