LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — The Lackawanna County Commissioners held the first reading of the budget for 2025 on Wednesday.
Tensions have been high between the Majority Commissioners Matt McGloin and Bill Gaughan, and Minority Commissioner Chris Chermak.
McGloin and Gaughan proposed a budget that would raise property taxes by 33% in an effort to bring Lackawanna County out of the red while Chermak proposed his own budget, calling for a 6.3% tax increase.
Residents at the meeting again expressed disappointment at a potential tax increase and urged the commissioners to work together.
A final budget approval will take place on November 20.
