SCRANTON, Pa. — La Festa Italiana kicks off Friday in Downtown Scranton.
A lot of work needs to be done beforehand. One task is wiring all the booths so the businesses can cook and keep the food warm.
Apprentices from the IBEW Local 81 volunteered their time to help set up.
One of those volunteers is Leslie Major. She tells Newswatch 16 that people are surprised to see her at work in a male-dominated field. "I get that a lot on every job site. Usually, they are like, why did you pick the trade? My dad is a plumber, and I just love being a part of things and having a hands-on experience."
The apprentices ran wires for more than sixty vendors.
La Festa runs through Monday in Scranton.
