Kindness Tree dedicated at Marywood University

A 20-foot homestead elm tree was planted on Marywood's campus as a reminder and encouragement to kindness.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — Efforts to encourage kindness on campus continue at Marywood University in Lackawanna County.

Marywood students Liz and Maddie Adams organized the donation of a Kindness Tree, a 20-foot homestead elm tree planted on Marywood's campus facing Adams Avenue.

The dedication ceremony comes shortly after Marywood's second annual Kindness Week, a program that hosted various activities to spread kindness on campus.

"It means that kindness will live on even after we graduate next year, and after we're gone, maybe people will see the tree and feel that inspiration," Maddie Adams said.

Buttons, stickers, and seed packets at the dedication ceremony carried the kindness message.

"The seeds are a way that anybody that comes to the tree can take some kindness and spread it," Liz Adams said. "Kind of a metaphor for taking kindness and spreading it in your own backyard."

Anewalt's Landscape donated the Kindness Tree.
