SCRANTON, Pa. — It was a kickoff to Black History Month at the Black Scranton Project Center for Arts & Culture on North Main Ave in Scranton on Saturday.
The theme of this year's celebration focuses on art; both the impact black artists have had in our society as well as how many have used art as a tool of expression, resistance, or healing.
"See a lot of incredible art from talented artists, not just locally but internationally; you can see snapshots of things we've done in the past, you'll get to see snapshots and faces of black Scrantonians from over a hundred years ago, and learn a little bit about some folks that I think are important. Especially right now with our theme of healing through the arts, people get to meet the first black doctor in the city of Scranton. And I think it's kinda cool because there are healthcare professionals that are BIPOC, and I think it could encourage people to want to stay in the area or become doctors themselves, who knows," said Glynis Johns, Founder, and CEO of Black Scranton Project Center for Arts and Culture.
The Black Scanton Project will be hosting events throughout the month of February. To learn more, click here.
