'This doesn't happen here': Neighbors in shock after woman found dead in her Jessup home

The woman's body was found Saturday night and troopers believe her husband killed her before taking his own life.

JESSUP, Pa. — This was the scene Saturday night along Second Avenue in Jessup.  Crime scene tape around the home with dozens of officers in and out, where State Police say 49 year old Stacie Ann Powers was found dead.

Thea Snyder lives a couple doors down from Powers' home and says when she saw all the police activity, she started to worry.

"I called Stacie immediately and her phone was off. I tried again and her phone was still off.  With all the police presence and crime scene tape up, we just knew something terrible had happened," said Thea Snyder.

According to state police, Powers' husband Michael Pine wasn't home when they arrived Saturday night and police were trying to find him, because they believed he killed Powers.

Troopers eventually found Pine dead inside his truck with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the early morning hours off of Salem Mountain Road near Carbondale.

Neighbors we spoke with were shocked to hear the news.

"Knowing that one of your neighbors is capable of something like that is scary. It is bittersweet that he is gone, but there's relief that we're not in trouble.  Nobody is in trouble," said Snyder.

"Both of them were nice people, very sociable.  I just can't believe that it could happen.  Especially right next door," said Ken, a next-door neighbor.

Neighbors tell Newswatch 16 the couple had only been married a short time.

Many of them had a great relationship with Powers and say she will be sorely missed.

"I loved her.  She used to call me dad," Ken said.

"She didn't deserve what happened. Terrible thing to happen to a wonderful person.  I pray for her soul and his," said Snyder.
