It's the 27th Super Bowl for a Lackawanna County superfan

For more than two decades, Jessup native Larry Spegar has put his life on hold to attend the Super Bowl.

JESSUP, Pa. — For more than two decades, when February rolls around, Jessup native Larry Spegar puts his life on hold. Every year he travels to the Super Bowl to witness a game he grew up watching on TV.

"The NFC actually leads 29 wins to 28 wins California, Florida, and Louisiana, largely with New Orleans has hosted the Super Bowl between those three states 40 out of 57 times," said Spegar.

"Ever since I was a little boy, Super Bowl Sunday was one of the biggest days of the year. added Spegar. "For me, it was the equivalent of Christmas without presents, but for me, the present with the big game."

He's seen it all, from the Patriots in the middle of building their dynasty in 2005 to Drew Brees hoisting the Lombardi trophy high in 2010.

The excitement is still there for Spegar, even after what will soon be 27 consecutive Super Bowls.

"I'm so I would say it's become easier because you're more prepared and you know what to expect, but the excitement never leaves. I think I was more excited to go to this year's Super Bowl than I was when I went to my first one in 1998," Spegar stated.

He always makes sure to bring that excitement home with him.

"From all the Super Bowls, I'm probably close to 100 pieces between jerseys and shirts."

Spegar thinks one team, in particular, is getting ready to add another trophy to their case.

"If I was going to give an edge, though, I'm gonna give it to the 49ers because of the fact that they lost the last matchup four years ago, and so many of them are motivated to win this one, including their head coach," Spegar said.

So keep an eye out for Spegar, he will be one of the more than 65 thousand fans in the stands in Las Vegas for Super Bowl 58 on Sunday, February 11th.
