Hospitals in Wilkes-Barre, Scranton to be sold

Three hospitals in our area will soon be sold to WoodBridge Healthcare.

LUZERNE COUNTY, Pa. — Three hospitals in Luzerne and Lackawanna counties will soon have a new owner.

Community Health Systems owns hospitals across the country, including the Commonwealth Health campuses of Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Regional Hospital of Scranton, and Moses Taylor Hospital in Scranton.

CHS says those hospitals will be sold to WoodBridge Healthcare later this year.

Commonwealth Health said in a statement, "We are proud of our caregiving team of physicians and employees who are committed to delivering the medical care needed by our patients and optimistic for the future. Our Commonwealth Health hospitals and clinics have a strong history of caring for the community and this will continue when we join WoodBridge Healthcare later this year. The leadership team of WoodBridge Healthcare is experienced in the successful operations of health systems and we look forward to working together with them in service to our patients."
