Flames broke out around 6:30 p.m. Monday along Griffin Pond Road in South Abington Township.

SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP, PA — The Lackawanna County Coroner's Office was called a home along Griffin Pond Road after a fire turned deadly.

Flames broke out around 6:30 p.m. Monday evening. When crews arrived on the scene, they said the home was engulfed in flames. The fire chief says a neighbor saw the fire and called 911.

Crews were eventually able to get it under control, but a 62-year-old man inside the home did not make it out.

The house was completely destroyed by the flames.

No other injuries were reported.

The identity of the man who died has not yet been released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials do not consider it suspicious.
