High School marching bands prepare for season

Before most districts begin the school year, high school football kicks off. The games wouldn't be the same without marching bands providing the in-game soundtrack.

DUNMORE, Pa. — The Dunmore Bucks are set to have a great football season, but they aren't the only stars on the field.  The Dunmore High School Marching Band has also been working hard behind the scenes.

"The kids have been working for five weeks now, working really hard and we're just about to the point where the show is ready to go," Dunmore High School Marching Band Advisor Nicole Zywicki said.

The marching band performs at all of the high school football games.  They have been learning their music since mid July and started practicing on the field earlier this month.

"From putting the music together, learning the music, charting the show, putting the music together with the movements.  It's a lot of time that goes into this," Zywicki said.

The students are really proud of this year's field show.

"Our theme this year is early 2000s songs," said drum major Loren Spudic.

"We start off just by going through measure to measure, just seeing where our places are.  Through each song, putting each song together.  Then each song and the next song together," Spudic added.

This year there are 35 students in Dunmore High School's Marching Band.  Advisor Nicole Zywicki says that's about the same as last year.

"There was a little bit of a lull during Covid and the kids didn't have band in school.  They couldn't play their instruments for about a year and a half, our younger kids, so we're starting to see the numbers go back up again," Zywicki said.

Band members are excited to showcase their field show each week at Dunmore's football games.
