Helping their community one glass at a time in Lackawanna County

A yearly tradition is in its 4th year to benefit the family of Valley View teacher Amy Barrett, who recently died after a battle with cancer.

ARCHBALD, Pa. — In front of Tri-Star Academy in Archbald, kids were setting up shop.

"We have some bracelets, some keychains, some rocks here," said Molly Lewis of Jermyn.

As customers lined up for a taste of some lemonade, a stand that's been well in the works.

"They've been planning for a while. The bracelet-making started a few months ago," said Kayla Borowski, Tri-Star Academy Director.

It is a yearly tradition at Tri-Star, and this is the fourth year it's up and running. But this year, all the proceeds will go to the family of Valley View teacher Amy Barrett, who recently died after a battle with cancer.

"A lot of the students had her in the past, and they had a huge impact on their lives. They actually choose the cause that we're going to give it to every year. So, this is their idea, and they wanted to do it in their honor and remember her," added Borowski.

Those from Valley View are happy to support the family when they need it most.

"She was always kind and everything, and she always greeted us as well," said Emily Williams of Jermyn.

But much more than just lemonade was poured into every cup.

"I'm really happy because I like to do it for other people," added Lewis.

"They love doing it and have fun doing it. They love giving back. We want to teach them it is good to give back, especially for your community," added Borowski.

These kids will be back at it on Friday when the lemonade stand will be up and running in Archbald from 10 to 3 p.m.
