GREENFIELD TOWNSHIP, Pa. — People enjoyed learning about Ham Radio on Saturday in Lackawanna County.
The Windmill Amateur Radio Club held its annual Summer Field Day at Merli-Sarnoski Park in Greenfield Township.
Ham Radio, or amateur radio, is a popular hobby, it can also be used to send emergency communications without the internet.
The purpose of the field day event is to practice setting up radio stations and sending emergency signals in times of crisis.
"It brings all the ham radio operators together and also brings the public out and let the public know exactly what we do and what we're all about. A lot of people aren't familiar with amateur radio or ham radio is another term for it. So we've tried to pretty much try to bring them out and actually show them what we actually do," said Joe Cieciorka with Windmill Amateur Radio Group.
Amateur Radio Field Day events take place across the country and in Canada on the fourth weekend of June every year.
