CARBONDALE, Pa. — The Greater Carbondale YMCA's former Executive Director Steve Durkin was honored with a dedication in the lobby of the recreation center on Saturday as well as with a dedication of the park outside in his memory.
The park includes a pavilion, playground, and seating areas along the Lackawanna River.
"I think Steve's vision was always to have this park over here and have beautiful families to come and enjoy from birth to 110. So, this vision for him today, he is probably smiling down on us and letting us know that we are continuing his legacy. And we plan to do it as staff and board of the Carbondale YMCA and we also are expecting great things from the community and families," said Mary Pantzar, Interim Executive Director of Greater Carbondale YMCA.
The YMCA also unveiled the soon-to-be Kelsch Splash Pad for people to enjoy. That is expected to open in a few weeks in Lackawanna County.
