SCRANTON, Pa. — Bartari on Adams Ave in downtown Scranton might look unsuspecting from the outside, but once you make your way inside, it's an entirely different vibe.
Students from the E-Sports Program at Lackawanna College, as well as Wilkes-University, are holding their 4th annual gaming day event at Bartari.
It's part of a nationwide effort to raise funds for the Children's Miracle Network.
The money raised from gamers, as well as the pinball machines inside Bartari, will go directly towards supporting the Janet Weis Children's Hospital.
"It's just about all of our students having fun raising money for a great cause, and usually, they get their friends and family to harass them in chat," said Robert Dee, E-Sports Program Coordinator at Lackawanna College.
For 12 hours, viewers cheer gamers on while they play and complete fun challenges for the children.
In the past four years, Lackawanna College's E-Sports Program has raised more than $22,000 for the local children's hospital.
"Every year, it's so exciting to watch it grow. They just blow our expectations out of the water every time," said Samantha Hinkle, Development Specialist of Children's Miracle Network at Geisinger.
"Last year, we made more than we ever made before with this event. Like double the amount, so we're hoping to make even more this year, and I think we are going to reach that goal," said Joel Hicks, Lackawanna College E-Sports student.
The event also has basket raffles that benefit the children.
"I mean, we're playing Mario Party right now. That's a lot of fun. Check into the stream to watch us play right now. Wilkes is winning at the moment so," said CJ Bidini, Wilkes University E-sports student.
Anyone can join the gamers. They will be at Bartari gaming and streaming until 11 p.m.
The gamers stream at Bartari all night, hoping to reach their goal.
