Four Scranton care center residents celebrate milestone 99th birthdays together

Reaching the age of 99 years is a feat in itself, but for four residents of a care center in Lackawanna County, it's something they all got to celebrate together

SCRANTON, Pa. — It's a celebration almost a century in the making, as John Pish, Catherine Green, Lucille Johnston, and Dorothy Pisarcik celebrate their 99th Birthdays.

"I never thought that I would ever make this because none of my family went this way," said Dorothy Pisarcik. "My grandparents, yeah, they went to 100 and two, but they lived in Hazelton."

Surrounded by friends and family at the Green Ridge Care Center in Scranton, the four were celebrated with balloons and cake while chatting about times gone by.

"I told everybody in here, I said, I'm a talker, and you're gonna listen to me because that's what I do," Pisarcik.

"Well, he said, I have a little surprise, I'm gonna tell you. But no. So I said, OK, I don't, I don't tell secrets," said Lucille Johnston. "And then he told me that he was gonna have a get-together for the 99-year-old."

Lucille Johnston turned 99 on Tuesday and is quite happy with everything she's accomplished since 1925, including helping out at a local hospital.

"Then I volunteered as CMC for about 20 years I received an award, a presidential award signed by President Obama." said Johnston.

She's also grateful for all the people she's met since moving into the care facility and the memories she continues to make.

"One of my very first birthday cards was last Saturday, and it was from these people in Hawley," said Johnston. "It just pleases me so much to think that they would think that much of me."
