Former President Trump holds rally in Scranton

The campaign stop comes with just under a month to go before voters head to the polls.

SCRANTON, Pa. — The crowd cheered loudly inside Riverfront Sports Complex Wednesday afternoon as former President Donald Trump made a campaign stop in Scranton.

"This was supposed to be just a little gathering. There's a lot of people outside trying to get in," said former Pres. Trump.

This rally marks the Republican presidential nominee's second campaign event in Northeastern Pennsylvania this year. "On day one, I will tell Pennsylvania energy workers to Frack, Frack, Frack and drill drill, drill, drill, baby drill," he said.

The former president touched on a wide array of topics important to voters, from promising to increase Pennsylvania's role in energy production to criticizing the Biden and Harris Administration's role in the handling of Hurricane Helene.

Trump calling on voters to support his bid for re-election, "We will make America strong again. We will make America proud again and we will make America great again."

The former president wrapped up his speech just before 5 p.m.

He is now headed to Reading, where he is set to speak Wednesday night at 7 p.m.

Newswatch 16 spoke with voters in line for the former president's rally at 4 a.m. Wednesday many waiting hours to see their candidate speak.

One subject that's weighing on the minds of Trump's supporters in Lackawanna County is immigration.

"I am an immigrant; I'm not against immigration. But I am against illegal immigration. If I, I will not open my door to anyone. I will open my door to people who I trust. Same. The border is our door, American door. So far, no country without borders, only America, that does not make sense," said Endang Loukobolous, Scranton.

Other supporters tell us the topics that they're focusing on this election include the economy and conflicts overseas.
