LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — A former Lackawanna County sheriff has died.
John Szymanski passed away last Wednesday evening, according to officials with the Lackawanna County Sheriff's Office.
From 1982 to 2013, Szymanski served as the longest-tenured sheriff in the county's history.
He also helped to expand the sheriff's office and the role itself.
Szymanski was born in Archbald. He was 87 years old.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 12, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church along Jackson Street in Scranton.
