LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — In Dunmore, Pandarella's on East Drinker Street hosted something called "pancakes for police" over the weekend. Money raised through pancake sales goes to the wounded officer and his family.
"We thought we would definitely have a crowd but not nearly as much as we did," Megan Meredick said. "It is amazing to see how well the community comes together to support an officer and his family, especially in time of need."
Det. Gilmartin is in a hospital in Scranton. He was shot as he investigated reports of gunfire in a Scranton neighborhood.
Cooper's Seafood House on North Washington Avenue in Scranton is selling king crab legs for $20 on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. $10 from every dinner goes to help Det. Gilmartin.
"We just heard about the awful tragedy of Mr. Gilmartin, and we just want to support him in any way we can. Any way we could help out the community, especially something like this, we always try and get involved," said Zack Cooper.
At Cooper's, they call it "back the blue and a catch of compassion."
