LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — Roads quickly began to look more like rivers as remnants of Tropical Storm Debby shut down Northern Boulevard and made other areas of South Abington Township impassable.

This part of the Abington's is no stranger to flooding. Heavy rain led to major flooding in this area last fall.

Outside McCarthy Flowers customers and employees were stuck watching the water gush over storm drains while police shut down the roads around the business near Clarks Summit.

"There's a police man over there. I think he's blocking the road.   The construction guys they've got it blocked over here that there's now four police officers. They've got it completely blocked. The notch is flooded. It's just everything is just." said Elizabeth Campbell, from McCarthy Flowers.

While it appears the heavy rain we saw earlier in the day has let up, the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby are expected to linger throughout the night.

Here in Scranton, Mayor Paige Cognetti says the floodgates are expected stay closed through the end of Flood Watch which runs until later this evening.

The Scranton floodgate closures are at:

Olive Street

Albright Avenue

Poplar Street

Parker Street

and Sanderson Street

In Clarks Summit, Police had closed South State Street and West Grove Street through Northern Boulevard, but as of 4:30pm those roads have reopened
