Flames damage home in Lackawanna County, firefighter suffers medical emergency

It took about 45 minutes for firefighters to put out the blaze in Ransom Township.

SCRANTON, Pa. — Flames damaged a home in Lackawanna County.

Crews were called to the place on Community Drive in Ransom Township just after 5 p.m. on Thursday.

It took about 45 minutes to knock it down.

Scranton Fire Chief John Judge says Fire Captain Roger Rogalewicz, a firefighter with three decades of service in the department, suffered a life-threatening medical emergency.

The chief says firefighters and paramedics immediately began life-saving measures. Capt. Rogalewicz was taken to a hospital, where he is currently in the intensive care unit.

A state police fire marshal says the fire was accidental, caused by a faulty power strip in a bedroom.
