Fire destroys home in Throop

The fire started on Tuesday just after 10 a.m. on Oleckna Street.

LACKAWANNA COUNTY, Pa. — A fire destroyed a home in Lackawanna County on Tuesday morning.

The fire started just after 10 a.m. at a home on Oleckna Street in Throop.

Several fire departments were called to help fight the flames. 

Volunteer Hose Company #3 Fire Chief Andy Hegedus says the fire was put out in about 15 minutes.

The homeowner made it out safely with their dog, but their cats are still missing.

The homeowner's father says that the home has been in their family for decades and that his daughter and her husband will stay with them due to the fire. 

The State Police Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire in Lackawanna County
