Father charged after allegedly injuring infant

Alexander Karangis faces aggravated assault charges after investigators say he severely injured his 2-month-old son.

SCRANTON, Pa. — Police in Lackawanna County have arrested a man for allegedly assaulting an infant.

Investigators say Alexander Karangis, 27, of Scranton, brought his 2-month-old son to the hospital earlier this month, where the child was diagnosed with a severe brain injury and a brain bleed. Doctors believe the infant's injuries are consistent with violent shaking.

Karangis' girlfriend told police she left the baby alone with him for a little more than half an hour before the child was taken to the hospital. That's when Karangis allegedly called her and said something was wrong with the baby.
