Families hit the theatres after Christmas

Families flocked to the silver screen to catch the newest blockbusters and blunders.

MOOSIC, Pa. — The lights of Cinemark shine bright over a packed parking lot as families and friends wait in line at the box office to score some tickets to the movies.

"We are going to see 'Migration.' It's a bird movie," said Avary Jacob.

"Enjoy the holiday spirit and the festivities of everything; we are going to see 'Wonka,'" said Adam Joline of Mountain Top.

The post-Christmas festivities continue for Adam Joline and Layla Barron as the two look to catch one of the sweetest releases this year.

"I've actually already seen 'Wonka,' I loved it so much I wanted to come and see it again," said Layla Barron, Dickson City.

Paul King's "Wonka" is the third adaptation of "Willy Wonka" and his chocolate factory.

Since hitting theatres on Dec. 15, the film starring Timothée Chalamet surpassed $200 million at the global box office, making it one of only 24 films from 2023 to do so.

"The way that they brought in from the old Gene Wilder Wonka, that was a lot of cool similarities that I saw, and just after the holidays, it's a good Tuesday to just go out and catch a movie," said Layla.

"I'm an over-road truck driver, so I don't have much time to spend with them, so I wanted to bring them out," said Alfredo Bermudez.

Before heading back to work, Alfredo Bermudez brought his family to see Jason Momoa as he returned to DC's "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom."

A tradition his family tries to do almost every holiday.

"We try too, Thanksgiving too, but we'd like to come here," said Alfredo.

Whether it was "Aquaman" or the fabulous world of Willy Wonka, everyone who attended the movies the day after Christmas knew they had to get their hands on their favorite snack.

As we get ready to close out 2023, "Wonka" is the 20th highest-grossing film at the worldwide box office in 2023.

The top three are "Oppenheimer" at #3, "The Super Mario Bros" at #2, and "Barbie" at # 1.
