Fire in Dunmore ruled an accident, state police say

Firefighters rescued the Drinker Street tenant through a second-floor window. The fire started on the stove.

DUNMORE, Pa. — Note: The above video is from an earlier story.

A fire that tore through a Lackawanna County woman's apartment late last month has been ruled accidental, a state police fire marshal said Monday.

The fire at 760 Drinker St. in Dunmore started just before 10 p.m. July 29. Investigators say it originated on the kitchen stove.

A second-floor tenant, 53-year-old Brenda Cruise, met with a "wall" of black smoke upon opening a door in her apartment. She quickly called 911 and firefighters with the Dunmore Fire Department rescued her through a second-floor window.

Officials say she suffered minor injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Trooper Jason Mills, a state police fire marshal, opened an investigation and ruled the cause of the fire an accident.
